Hakem Douglas

Hi, my name is Hakem Douglas and this will be my class for the next couple of weeks. I was born in New York but grew up in Bensalem, Pa. I spent my Freshman and sophomore years of high school at Harry S. Truman and my Junior and senior years at Bensalem High School. I am a pretty outgoing and talkative person who loves to watch or play almost any type of sport. I also love going to the gym so I will probably be there at least 4 times a week. I am a big fan of music I like Rap the most but on my phone I have probably at least one song of every genre. If you ever see me in my room or anywhere else I will most likely be listening to music. I am the only child and my mother and father are both Caribbean and were born in St. Kitts.

Owen Darrah

Hello, I'm Owen Darrah. I'm pretty happy to be here even though I'm missing a cruise with my family.

I'm a pretty quiet person (at first), but I do enjoy being around people when I can. I usually get progressively more talkative to people the longer that I am friends with them, so if for some reason you actually want to get to know me, you might have to be a little patient. With close friends, I like to joke around a lot, and I'm usually up for anything. I hope i get to know a lot of you, as you all seem pretty interesting.

I like almost all genres of music, and I listen to artists from all over the world. I'm always looking for new bands to listen to, so if you have any suggestions let me know. I also like going to the gym, but haven't been able to for a while after suffering an injury, but I hope to get back there plenty this summer.

I also have a few dogs back at home. Charlie, a chocolate lab, his sister Lulu, a yellow lab, and a rescue pit bull, Mae.

Patricia Olivares

Hi everyone! My name is Patricia, but I like to go by Patty. I am part Peruvian because my mom is from Peru and part Chilean because my dad is from Chile. I was born in New Jersey but have lived most of my life in Mifflintown, Pennsylvania. Recently my family and I got a puppy. He is a Lab and Boxer mix, he is about six weeks old, and his name is Jasper. This summer I have already traveled to Chile. I went the week before the summer session started and visited family. I have also been to Berlin and Hamburg, Germany, Denmark, and Manchester, UK (even if it was for a day). At first I am a very shy and introvert, but once I'm comfortable I seem to be very outgoing.
I chose Bloomsburg because it has a very great speech language pathology program, the campus is beautiful, and it's only two hours from home. One of my favorite things to do in my free time is to hangout with my friends, watch Netflix, or sometimes read. I love music, shopping, and to have a great time.
My goal by the end of the summer session is to pass the summer session with high grades, and to become friends with great people!

Yasemin Dum

Hi, my name is Yasemin Dum. I would like to tell you some general information about myself. I was born in Lower Bucks Hospital. For most of my life I grew up in Croydon, Pa but recently within the last two years of my life I have been moving a lot. I have one sister named Leyla, two younger half brothers and two older step-brothers. I am 50% Turkish. I am a graduate of Harry S. Truman High school in Levittown. Sometimes I am not a very outgoing person, overall privacy is key to me. I'd rather be alone then in large groups of people most of the time . I enjoy reading and listening to music as well as hanging out with my small group of friends. I'm also very shy and speaking in front of groups of people makes me extremely nervous. Currently, my major is Pre-Social Work. So far I am enjoying life on campus and I am excited to see what the next few weeks hold for me.

Ritchie Sablosky

Greetings, my name is Ritchie Sablosky. I was born in Malvern, a suburb of Philadelphia. I went to high school at Conestoga High School. I like to try new things, and be outdoors. I like to be with my family, which consists of my mom and two brothers. My brothers are both older than me, but we all get along fine. I like to spend time with my older brothers, especially in the gym. We all are avid lifters and go to the gym daily. My oldest brother Max is a High Voltage Substation Designer II at First Energy-Edison Electric. My other brother is a student at West Chester University and works as a property manager at Stonehenge Advisors.

I have a two dogs at home named Lola and Shaina. Lola is a Sheepdog and Poodle mix and Shaina is a Toy Poodle. I do like Lola a slightly more than Shaina.

Sage Stokes

Hi!
My name is Sage Stokes. I grew up in Lafayette Hill PA, which is right outside of Philly, but spent a few years living in Vermont.  I attended Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School for all four years of my high school career, and loved it! I have a younger sister who is going to be a junior in high school this year, but I come from a huge family. I am the first great-grandchild out of sixty-eight other kids. Because of that, I'm a huge people person and tend to be very outgoing. Besides living with my mom, sister, and step dad,  I also have two huskies Ana and Kaiya.

When I'm not hanging out with my friends or going out, I love to read or go to the gym. I also love to spend time with my family, which includes spending a lot of my time with my god-daughter Sammy. My favorite place to go is the beach, and when I'm there I like to go paddle boarding or go shopping on the boardwalk. Traveling is something that I don't get to do often, but I love to visit my family in California and Oregon, and hope to one day move to the West coast!

Hunter Woods

Hey everyone! My name is Hunter. I'm originally from Michigan but I moved to Honesdale, PA four years ago. My favorite place is somewhere by a beach or the airport because that spells out adventure and travel! I especially love to travel with friends and family. I've been to multiple different states and this summer I am taking my first out of country vacation to an island called Curacao. I also enjoy volleyball and watching movies. I played volleyball for three years and my favorite movie is Dirty Dancing. I am an Elementary Education Major with an interest in becoming bilingual in Spanish. I'm excited to be attending Bloom and I would love to get to know everyone (:

Katelyn Meeker

Hello!
My name is Katelyn Meeker and I am from Philadelphia Pennsylvania. I was born on July 7th (lucky 7/7) which makes me a Cancer (zodiac sign). As a Cancer, I tend to be extremely shy and mellow when I first meet someone. After getting to know me I am very funky. My hobbies are hiking, rock climbing, dancing, and listening to music. Over the past four years or so I have attended over 35 shows(concerts) along the east coast. I have a very wide variety of music taste from the Grateful Dead to Nirvana to Kanye West. In High school I was very interested in writing. My 10th grade English teacher recommended me to write for our High school newspaper. From that experience, I learned that I would not like to be a journalist for newspapers or magazines. I hope to take as much information from this summer course as possible to expand my knowledge and interest in writing.

Kasey

Hi!
My name is Kasey Coyle. I'm from bucks county, Pa. I came here from Council Rock South, one of the best high schools ever. I come from a big family which makes me who I am today. I have four siblings and my grandparents have raised me up until this day. I'm a loud person and I usually get along with most people I meet. I love meeting new people, which excites me the most about starting school at Bloomsburg University.
During my free time I like to do fun things such as riding wave runners, hanging out with friends and go on many adventures. I like to travel to the shore and up the mountains on my free time and I dream to travel much more when I'm older and able to do so. The most important people in my life are my niece and nephew whom I love more than anyone. They are my brightness in my darkest days and I would do anything for them! My family is one of the most important things in my life and they are my greatest influence to me.

Ashlee Cheatley

Hello! My name's Ashlee. I'm from Philadelphia, PA, from a neighborhood called Frankford. Although I grew up in the city, I had the opportunity to attend an agricultural high school named Saul High School, where I joined the FFA (Future Farmers of America)! Everyday after my academic classes, I had at least 3 periods of "Ag-class". I majored in Large Animal science my first 3 years, and I got to work with all types of farm animals. I was able to groom horses, clean up pig pens, sheer sheep, and clean up the Dairy Barn. During my senior year, I majored in Small Animals where I learned about Lab Animals, and I had to clean Mice, Rat, Guinea Pig, Gerbil, and Hamster cages. I had to train rats as well. When most people think of Philadelphia, the last thing they think of is the largest Agriculture High School in the USA, but I was able to have such a great opportunity.
I initially chose Saul because of my love for animals. Throughout my life, I've had 3 dogs, 2 cats, 3 turtles, and 2 lizards. My current dog's name is Charlie, he's half Great Dane, half Doberman. He'll be a year old next week, and is about 4 inches taller than me when he's standing on his hind legs. My love for animals made me believe I'd always work to be a Vet! But, working with animals made me realize how difficult animals are. While at Bloomsburg, I hope to major in Biology, and one day become a pediatric oncologist. I would love to work at St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital once I become an Oncologist. Another dream of mine is, once I grow up, I want to buy a house with a lot of land, and adopt all of the Pit Bulls of the Philadelphia Humane Society!

I hope you enjoyed learning a little about me! :)

Nick Lazar

My name is Nick Lazar and I am from Philadelphia. My summer was going to be spent in Wildwood, New Jersey, but I have the incredible pleasure of going to summer classes at Bloomsburg instead. Some things I enjoy are sports and movies, so if anybody else is interested in those I am sure we could be friends. I am a pretty personable guy, so I would enjoy getting to know everybody.

I am looking forward to seeing how the summer classes unfold and also looking forward to starting my college career on the right foot. I am sure the transition from high school to college will be drastic, but I feel more comfortable knowing that everyone else is doing it as well. Best of luck to everyone in the class!

Dylan Heid

Hello my name is Dylan. I live in Malvern which is about 30 minutes north west of Philly. I have two older brothers and a dog named Rocket. He's pretty chill. If I could have any pet, it would be a hedgehog because they're chill as well. I've been playing baseball my whole life and I will be a pitcher for the team here. Sometimes I can get off topic but I will try to take my medicine every morning. I also enjoy playing basketball on my free time. I'm majoring in computer science but digital forensics interests me too.

Stanly Philippe

I'm Stanly Philippe,I am from Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania. I moved to Sinking Spring when I was about 8 months from New York. I love the suburbs more than the city because everything is a lot more spread out.

One of my favorite things to do is traveling. My family and I go on cruises every 2 years. My first cruise was on the biggest cruise ship at the time called Oasis Of The Seas, there were 5,000 people on the ship with 15 floors. We got to visit Haiti, Jamaica, and Mexico. We boarded my 2nd cruise from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and we got to visit Barbados, St. Kitts, and St. Martins. This was by far my favorite cruise, besides the fact that I couldn't get into the club since I was only 17.

I'm going to miss all of my friends back at home, but it's going be a great experience meeting new people, and beginning my life as an adult!

Noah Mabey

Hi, my name is Noah Mabey and I was born in West Palm Beach, Florida. I have lived in North New Jersey for about 10 years with my family in a town called Kinnelon. I am striving to become a music major here at BU in the field of audio engineering. I have a few different bands back in my home town that I play a lot of shows and gigs with. For me, creating music is my number priority because it gives me the freedom to express myself through an endless amount of possibilities. This semester at Bloomsburg, I wish to excel in all of my courses and truly make the best out of my college experience.

Dr. Francis Reporting for Summer School

Welcome to English 101 - Foundations of College Writing. I'm Dr. Christina Francis, and I'll be your instructor this summer. In the spirit of getting off on the right foot, I'd like to tell you a little about me. . .

I grew up around the world, following after my father's job in the Air Force. This means I love to travel. I've visited a lot of countries, most recently Istanbul, Turkey. When I was a teen, I lived in Turkey for three years, when my father was stationed at Incirlik AFB. My trip to Istanbul brought back some fabulous memories of my younger years. I greatly enjoyed visiting some of the cultural treasures of Turkey's capital city and sampling its yummy cuisine.

This summer I haven't traveled nearly so far - just a trip to Rehobeth Beach with my partner, Ethan, and his four children. Sadly, we had to leave the newest addition to our motley crew at home.
Meet Finn:

Finn is a rescue dog. We are really lucky that this rambunctious two-year old decided to join our family. He loves chasing rabbits and other small rodents; will smother you with doggie kisses if you let him; and drives his people crazy with his indestructible squeaky bone toy (it's really the only toy to escape demolition so far).

Now that I've told you a few things about me. Please share a little about yourself with the rest of the class!  Here's to a good summer session!
